Number of Learners in Class: 3 - 8
Length of Class: 45 minutes
Type of Class: 1 class per week for 12 weeks (12 classes total)

This course emphasizes knowledge and skills related to the craft of writing. Learners will analyze models of effective writing, identify and use techniques required for specialized forms of writing, and identify effective ways to improve the quality of their writing.

Learners will study a variety of genres and develop skills to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of texts, including poems, short stories, novels, non-fiction texts, videos, songs, or other media texts. The course concentrates on works of recognized literary merit. Reading will be accompanied by thoughtful discussion and numerous opportunities for creative writing across all genres. The course emphasizes creative writing and the strengthening and development of learners' techniques. Homework for this course consists of weekly writing assignments to receive the greatest value from this class; learners are encouraged to bring completed works to class each week for feedback.


The curriculum consists of a diverse range of instructional materials delivered through multiple approaches such as direct lectures with PowerPoint presentations, interactive learning with peer discussions, and independent study while working on given assignments. These various approaches ensure that learners understand the material being taught in class. Learners will identify and use various strategies including building vocabulary, learning to understand and use features and organization of texts, and developing knowledge of conventions.

Assessment:
With each assignment, rubrics will be introduced such that learners may understand the objectives and criteria. No grade will be issued at the end of the course unless requested. If you would like a grade given, please be sure to notify me.


Teacher Qualifications: Khushi Kamboj:
I am currently an Undergraduate student at OCAD University, majoring in Graphic Design and Literature to earn my bachelor's degree. I love teaching and have been doing it for over three years in various subjects such as English and Creative Writing through in-school peer tutoring and online tutoring. For Language arts, I have worked with individuals and learners ranging from complete beginners to near-native proficiency. My experience has allowed me to accommodate a wide range of learners.
