For families wishing for additional math support we also offer a second live weekly option. This option provides a second live online meeting weekly.

NO NEW MATERIAL WILL BE TAUGHT ON THIS DAY - This second meeting with the instructor helps to ensure learners have ample time to practice and master concepts and allows for more in-depth exploration of material as well as testing (testing is optional to all families but only available with the second live meeting option).

These secondary days must also be enrolled into separately each term.

Welcome to Math Grade 1 - our full year program consists of three separate terms and two options for live weekly meetings. 

Option 1: One live online meeting per week and includes curriculum. Each term is billed individually based on the number of weeks in it and will require individual enrolment. Alternate terms can be accessed through the links below. 

Option 2: For families wishing for additional math support we also offer a second live weekly option. This option provides a second live online meeting weekly. This second meeting with the instructor helps to ensure learners have ample time to practice and master concepts and allows for more in-depth exploration of material as well as testing (testing is optional to all families but only available with the second live meeting option). These secondary days must also be enrolled into separately each term. 


COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The main goals of mathematics education are to prepare students to:

  • Use mathematics confidently to solve problems 
  • Communicate and reason mathematically
  • Commit themselves to lifelong learning

This live online, instructor led math class will help your learner thrive in mathematics this year. Course includes all curriculum (meets or exceeds all provincial curricular standards). Learners will attend live online instruction and will be given homework to completely throughout the week. Course will include marked assignments, projects, and an end of term written summary to assist documenting learner understanding. Families wishing to have learners complete testing will need to also enrol in the twice weekly option. 

NOTE: 
No classes on statutory holidays or Easter Monday (Oct 10th, Nov 11th, Apr 7th, Apr 10 and May 22nd). 
No classes during winter break Dec 19th - 30th 2022
No classes during spring break Mar 13 - 24th 2023

— Numbers to 20 can be arranged and recognized.

Make 10:

· decomposing 10 into parts

· Numbers to 10 can be arranged and recognized.

· Traditional First Peoples counting methods involved using fingers to count to 5 and for groups of 5.

Addition and subtraction to 20:

· decomposing 20 into parts

· mental maths strategies:

— counting on

— making 10

— doubles

· Addition and subtraction are related.

· whole-class number talks

Change in quantity to 20:

· verbally describing a change in quantity (e.g., I can build 7 and make it 10 by adding 3)

Financial literacy:

· identifying values of coins (nickels, dimes, quarters, loonies, and toonies)

· counting multiples of the same denomination (nickels, dimes, loonies, and toonies)

· Money is a medium of exchange.
