Description

Play dough is a simple, fun tool with many developmental, learning, and sensory benefits.

It helps young children develop fine muscle control in their hands while stimulating the imagination and calming the senses. Squishing, smashing, pulling, twisting, rolling, cutting, and all the other fun of play dough help develop fine motor skills, build hand strength, dexterity, and the control needed to use many everyday items such as pencils, scissors, zippers, and buttons.

 Other benefits of this class:

  • Creativity – play dough can be anything from food to animals, houses to shapes; playdough invites creative thought.
  • Language and literacy development—In class, as children discuss what they are creating and listen to their peers, they expand their vocabulary and ability to express their thoughts and develop their comprehension and listening skills.
  • Science and Math: Creating shapes and comparing sizes, along with other play activities, exposes learners to a vast base of math and science concepts.
  • Sensory development—Everything about play dough lends to sensory development. Squeezing, rolling, and kneading provide stress relief. Pushing in cookie cutters or rolling with a rolling pin provides pressure input for joints for proprioceptive development. Finding creative ways to add scent to play dough makes for an olfactory treat; the list goes on!

You're ready for serious learning through play with a few common household ingredients (flour, salt, water, oil, lemon juice, and food colouring).

Learner Supply List: Learners will need play dough (pre-made or store-bought).

Important: This is not a play dough making class is is a building class. Please ensure your learner has play dough and accessories ready to go for the start of class.
