Description

A healthy spin on the classic marshmallow toothpick engineering challenge! Marshmellow towers are fun to build and have so much to teach while kids have fun trying different shapes and structures to see which are strongest. They also (at least according to my kids!) make great snacking... so while we love the marshmallow tower challenge, this fruit version provides the same great learning but far less sugar.

What is a STEM Challenge?

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. Sometimes you might see it as STEAM, in which "Arts" is being included. STEM challenges inspire kids to solve problems for which there are multiple solutions, often requiring them to build or make something with their hands in the process. STEM challenges will require trial and error and combine elements of the four pillars: science, technology, engineering, and math.

Supplies needed:

Toothpicks

Fruit pieces of your or your child(ren)'s choice cut into pieces. Be sure to try a variety of sizes and find out which ones work best.

Ideal fruit is dense (sturdy) but easy to poke with toothpicks.

ex grapes, apples, melon, orange pieces etc.

Younger children can work on simple shapes triangles, squares etc while slightly older children can build 3D structures and even try adding weight such as bigger pieces of fruit.
