Description

Ready, set, zip! In this exciting STEM challenge, young engineers will design, build, and test their own zip line systems.

It's time to take your creativity to new heights—literally! In this exciting STEM challenge, you'll design and build a zip line cage that can safely and swiftly carry a small object from start to finish. Use your imagination and any building materials you have on hand, such as building blocks (like LEGO®), craft sticks, paper cups, string, and tape. No rules, just innovation!

We'll explore key science concepts, including gravity, friction, and balance, while experimenting with different designs. Will your creation glide smoothly or need a few adjustments to improve its speed? Test, tweak, and master your zip line!

Suggested Supplies:

  • String or yarn (at least 3 meters / 10 feet long)
  • Small building blocks (e.g., LEGO® or other brands), craft sticks, or other construction materials
  • Tape (masking, duct, or scotch)
  • Paper cups or lightweight containers
  • Scissors
  • A small object to carry (e.g., a figurine, toy car, or marble)

Get ready to unleash your inner engineer and see how far your ideas can zip!
